‘Hospital needs additional facilities badly’

MIRI: Miri Hospital is in dire need of additional facilities like additional parking space, new hospital beds as well as wider space to cater to the expanding population in Miri.

SUPP Piasau branch chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting told The Borneo Post this following a recent trip to the hospital to visit a friend.

“At the moment, I was told by the hospital that more than 80 per cent of the 339 beds are occupied by patients seeking treatment in Miri Hospital. This means that there is no additional hospital bed for patients should there be any emergency case.

“Meanwhile, visitors face difficulty looking for parking spaces as they are occupied by working staff and doctors,” he commented.

“To resolve the matter, it is best to suggest to the federal government to consider expanding the whole place by building a new block. Wider and comfortabl­e space provides better environmen­t for both medical staff and patients,” he added.

matter, hoping that the latter could implement the proposal as soon as possible for the sake of the people’s welfare.

“Instead of including the proposal under the next Malaysia Plan, I suggest that the federal government work out the funding so that the project can be implemente­d soon as the usual procedure in applying for funds under the Malaysia Plan could take years.

“Miri is population is expanding at a fast rate. With the big population, medical and health issues should not be taken lightly,” he said before concluding the interview with The Borneo Post.
