Donation amounting to RM33,431 for Hung Ren Jing who passed away on Monday will be re- directed to Kuching Life Care Society.

The charity organisation in turn will channel the donation to its Palliative Care Centre Building Fund as an effort to speed up the project.

“The last days of Ren Jing were spent in the hospital. He had a hard time getting used of the not very hygienic toilets and bathrooms. We would like to fulfill his wish of providing a clean environment for terminally ill patients by speeding up the building of the Centre.

“So we are going to give away the money collected during his wake to Palliative Care Centre Building Fund,” Ren Jing’s father Sung Huo told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Sung Huo, who is also the society’s president said the NGO had managed to collect about RM2 mil for the Building Fund. As it is a project worth RM6 million, he called on the general public to donate to the building project to make Ren Jing’s wish come true sooner.

Passing away at the age of 22, Ren Jing leaves behind a Care Van, a vehicle providing free transport for outstation patients seeking medical care here.

Ren Jing’s vision of providing free transport for patients was inspired by his own predicament when he underwent bone marrow

The Hungs did not have any transport and a place to stay and experienced a hard time in Kuala Lumpur. It thus dawned on Ren Jing that many who came to seek medical treatment in Kuching from other parts of Sarawak, especially the rural areas, may also be suffering the same hardship.

Despite being sick himself, and upon returning to Kuching, he started to work with his father to raise fund for a Care Van for the society. Within 25 days of making the plan known to the public on social media, the society received enough money to buy a van with an excess of RM40,000. Donation continues to pour in.

Ren Jing was no ordinary child as he was already involved in social work in 1996 when he was just four years old. He had been helping his father to assist the poor and needy through the society, earning himself the nickname of ‘ The Super Tiny Helper’.

Kuching Life Care Society is part of the Federation of Life Care Society in the state. They are NGOs offering various services such as ambulance service, blood donation, and welfare aid to the hardcore poor.

The ultimate aim for the society is to provide palliative care for terminally ill patients.
