‘Kabong will likely be elevated into a district’

Kabong will most likely be elevated from a subdistrict to a district one day in line with the government’s effort to streamline the administration of Saratok parliamentary constituency as well as to facilitate further development in the area.

Minister of Social Development and Saratok MP Tan Sri William Mawan hoped that people in Roban will not harbour the thought that Roban sub- district office would be closed down after the elevation of Kabong into a district.

He assured them that Roban would continue to be a sub- district and serve the people well.

Mawan said this after receiving a courtesy call from 18 community leaders comprising mostly Iban longhouse chiefs and Kapitan Gan Eng Kie, led by Saratok

Yes I have heard of a suggestion of Kabong becoming a district and I think it will most likely be so not only because the people want it as such but also, the government wants to streamline the administration for the sake of further development in Saratok. District officer Ikhmal Abdullah at his office in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

“Yes I have heard of a suggestion of Kabong becoming a district and I think it will most likely be so not only because the people want it as such but also, the government wants to streamline the administration for the sake of further development in Saratok.

“But I want to tell the people of Roban not to worry about its sub- district status.

“Just because Kabong will most likely become a district, Roban sub- district office will not be closed down,” he said.

Mawan said the courtesy call was not a strange thing because the visit was a follow up to the last one in Saratok where he presented appointment and re- appointment letters to them ( longhouse or village chiefs).

There will be another group of community leaders from Saratok visiting him in the weeks or months to come where he would hold close door dialogue sessions with them to trash out issues or getting feedbacks and suggestions from them.

Mawan said he was satisfied with the outcome of yesterday’s meeting as most of the issues were cleared while the longhouse chiefs told him that the meeting was a fruitful one.
