Umpires get pat on the back

-

The South Neighbourhood Committee recently held a thank you dinner for umpires of the recently concluded ‘ Three on Three’ basketball competition held at Bletih basketball court here.

Chairman of the committee, Ma Tian Ho, in his brief remark thanked the umpires led by Jason Yeo for a job well done that ensured the success of the competition.

“We’re thankful to you for becoming umpires of the b asketball competition. In any competition, umpires play a very important role and throughout the matches, I observed you had all done a good job without any complaint from the participating teams. As an umpire, commitment and impartiality is very important,” said Ma.

He lamented that although there were many basketball players in this town, they were unorganised because there was no basketball association to organise competitions and to promote the game.

“South Neighbourhood Committee organised this basketball competition and the response was overwhelming. There were 10 teams including two Bumiputera teams in the competition. This proves that the game is not only played by Chinese but also by Bumiputeras,” he added.

At the same time, Ma also thanked the Department of Unity and Integration for providing funds for the competition.

Among those present was the treasurer of South Neighbourhood Committee, Sng Geok Yien.
