‘Give sultan sufficient space to choose new Selangor MB’

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has urged all parties to give the Selangor Sultan sufficient space to choose his replacement and for speculations on the matter to cease.

He believed that Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah would make the best choice with his wisdom in the interest of the people of Selangor.

“We have been advised through the palace to give Tuanku Sultan enough space to make the decision in the most appropriate manner.

resolved amicably with public interest being above everthing else.”

Abdul Khalid said this after the weekly state executive council meeting, here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, he denied the rumour that a state assemblyman would be taking his oath of office as the new Selangor menteri besar this Friday.

“Even if it happens, it will have to go through certain processes first. Traditionally in Selangor, there will be written invitations from the palace to the guests attending the swearing-in ceremony.

“I ask that all quarters give the space and time (to solve the leadership crisis in Selangor)... there’s no need for speculation on this matter,” he said.

On the recent statement by Klang member of parliament Charles Santiago that Abdul Khalid had no right to sign the agreement on the restructuring of the state’s water industry because of his status as a temporary menteri besar, he said Santiago did not understand the real situation.

He said as a professional, Santiago should look carefully again at the facts before making any statement that would have a negative impact on the community.
