KUCHING: The goods and services tax (GST) will only be a burden to those who are trying to avoid and run away from paying taxes, said Tan Sri Datuk M Kayveas.

In fact, pointed out the Special Advisor to the Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, GST would actually help the people and strengthen the country’s currency.

“Since the government already gets rid of 10 per cent government service tax and six percent government sales tax, and only comes out with one tax which is the six per cent GST, by right prices of everything should not go up.

“Even prices of cars, buses … tickets… should go down. The present war is not the government against the people, but it is the people against business operators who don’t want to be honest in their business and who don’t want to be taxed for profits they are making,”
