PDRM wants to be closer to society as it turns 208

KUALA LUMPUR: If teachers are regarded as candles which burn to light up others, the same adage can be applied to the long arm of the law, as well.

Malaysia’s police force was set up in 1807, to maintain law and order round-the- clock.

Today ( March 25), the nation’s modern police organisation is 208 years of age, much older than Malaysia itself.

Deputy Inspector- General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said beginning this year, the Royal Malaysia Police will endeavour to increase its engagement with society.

This, he said, was in line with this year’s Police Day theme, ‘Police And Society Stay Together’.

Previously, the theme, ‘Community Well- being is our Commitment’ was used since 2012.

“Based on this theme, the Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) hopes to boost its delivery system to society.

“We hope society will be satisfied with the services provided by PDRM,” he said in a special interview recently.

He also hoped a closer engagement with society would enable crime to be curbed earlier and successfully solved.

For starters, Noor Rashid said two new initiatives had been created, namely, to set up the Crime Prevention and Community Security Department and boosting police presence at public places.

In addition, PDRM is also using the social media to remain relevant with the young generation.

Other than Facebook, which until today received 1,453,378 likes, PDRM in its Facebook also announced it would be using Instagram soon.

Other than the engagement initiative with society, PDRM, prior to this, announced it was formulating an initiative towards implementing a World Class Policing Strategy ( WCP).

When interviewed by Bernama in conjunction with the 206th Police Day celebrations, Bukit Aman Human Resources Information Management assistant director, Datuk Aishah Mohammad said other than salary and grade equivalency, PDRM would also study job descriptions which were more people-friendly.

This was to ensure it was in line with the vision and mission to turn PDRM into a leading agency in law enforcement, she added.

She said PDRM would also study all aspects, including human resources, logistics and finance in making the force world- class. — Bernama
