Members of media taken on tour of Sejingkat power plant
KUCHING: Several members of the media here were taken on a tour of Sejingkat Power Corporation (SPC) plant yesterday as part of a workshop organised by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
A member of Sarawak Energy Group, SPC produces 210MW or 4.5 per cent of the overall unit generated in Sarawak, and is the main power supplier for the Kuching grid.
According to SPC maintenance manager Benjamin Sim, the plant was broken down into two phases – each phase having two Units.
“The plant was built in 1996. Phase 1 was commissioned in 1998, while Phase 2 commissioned in 2004,” he said during a briefing before the tour.
Phase 1 runs on two 50MW Hydrogen Cooled Generators, while Phase 2 is made up of two Air Cooled Generator which produces 55MW each. Phase 1 consumes 442.467 tonnes while Phase 2 consumes 484.386 tonnes a year.
“Our coal reserves are in Mukah-Balingian and Merit-Pila areas,” said Sim.
He also mentioned their zero safety accidents/incident and 100 per cent compliance as of 2014.
“We employ 232 staff, 30 per cent from surrounding villages like Senari and Goebilt and around 70 locals are indirectly employed through our contractors.”
Performance and condition monitoring manager Chu Sing Ping later took the group on a tour of the plant.
Also accompanying them were SEB Corporate Communication Department manager Ahadiah Zamhari, executive Vanes Devindran, and communications officer Roland George Clarke.
