Owner has had enough of leaky apartment

-

KUCHING: An apartment owner hopes that the management of one of the shoplots at MJC Batu Kawah New Township would allow him to move to another unit as his current one at there is considered ‘unfit’ to live in.

Jeffery Ting told a media conference at DAP office here yesterday that the unit which he took up in 2010 had been giving him ‘nightmares’ since, especially during downpours when water would seep inside due to leaks in almost every part of the ceiling.

“Every time it rains heavily, you can see water dripping all over the kitchen, the sitting room and bedroom. Usually when this happens, the power supply will be cut off, leaving us all in the dark.

“One night, I injured my knee after slipping over the wet floor,” he said.

Ting said he had been facing this problem since day one.

“I have consulted with them ( building management) several times and although they have been sending someone to rectify the cracks and leaks in my apartment, these efforts have been fruitless.

“So unless the management agrees to give me a new unit, I believe there will be no end to this problem,” Ting said.

In view of this, Batu Kawah assemblywoman Christina Chiew said in this sort of situation, that particular management should be more responsible towards the safety and well- being of its tenants.

She proposed for Ting to be moved into a new unit, lest he would have no other choice but to refer the case to the Consumers’ Tribunal.

According to Chiew, many apartment owners there have complained to her about them still not getting strata titles from the Land and Survey Department.

On this, she called on the authority concerned to take a serious look into the matter, given that the majority of these owners bought their properties more than 10 years ago.

So unless the management agrees to give me a new unit, I believe there will be no end to this problem.
