Certification course to eliminate illegal brokers

KUCHING: Aspiring real estate agents will get a chance to improve their credentials at a Negotiators Certification Course ( NCC) next month.

Organised by the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents ( MIEA), the course will be held here on April 18 and 19.

For those who wish to work in the real estate industry, it is compulsory to obtain this certificate which is recognised by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents ( Bovaea).

“The penalty for illegal brokers marketing real estate without registration with Bovaea is a fine of up to RM300,000, or three years’ jail, or both,” said a press statement issued by MIEA yesterday.

Holders of the NCC Certificates must then be employed by Registered Estate Agencies and Bovaea will then issue them with Real Estate Negotiator ( REN) identification tags.

This will stop misrepresentation and prevent the public from being cheated by illegal brokers.

Registration for the NCC can be done either online via MIEA website www. miea.com. my, or at MIEA Sarawak Branch Secretariat located at No. 18- C, Lot 2995, Wisma Keretapi (adjacent to Shell petrol station), Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, here.
