Call for stricter action on Balakong assemblyman

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP leadership has been urged to take stricter action against Balakong Assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chi for gambling in public recently.

A group, comprising DAP members and former members, said Ng should be expelled from the party, or the least, given a year’s suspension, instead of only three months.

Ramesh Rao, who claimed to be the spokesman for the group, said a stricter action should be taken against Ng as his doing had affected the party’s image.

As an assemblyman, Ng should set good example for the society, he added.

He said there had been cases of DAP members imposed with stricter penalty for their wrong doings.

“This is proof of double standard practiced by DAP, despite always saying they want to uphold justice, that they are transparent and clean,” he told media members at the DAP headquarters here today.

The group had gathered there to hand over a memorandum on the matter to the DAP leadership, but their attempt was futile.

Ng, through a Facebook posting, apologised to his supporters and constituents for his doing and was given a three month suspension by the party’s disciplinary committee through a letter last Sunday. The photo of the assemblyman gambling with a group of men during Chinese New Year was posted on social media and went viral on February 21. — Bernama
