Factory supervisor first to own coronation stamps

-

JOHOR BAHARU: A factory supervisor became the first person here to own a collection of special stamps issued in conjunction with the coronation of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

S Jega, 52, said the wait at the General Post Office here since 10.30pm on Monday was worth it as he managed to buy four complete sets of the stamps, after queueing up twice.

“I did not mind leaving the house early, just to get the collection. As only two sets are allowed per purchase, I queued up again to buy two more sets,” he said when met by reporters here yesterday.

Jega, from Kulaijaya, who began collecting stamps at 17, said the issuance of the stamps on the coronation was something much awaited to complete his collection.

Jega, who owns more than 1,000 First Day Covers, regards the purchase of the stamps as proving his love for the Sultan of Johor and the state.

Meanwhile, septuagenarian Mad Esa Denan said he was willing to drive 100km from Kluang to the city to get the special stamp at the General Post Office.

The 74-year- old, a stamp lover since 1958, currently owns more than 50 albums. He said he was willing to leave the house as early as 4am because he did not want to be left behind from completing his stamp collection.

“Not that I don’t want the stamps at the Kluang Post Office. I made the purchase at the General Post Office as I want the First Day Cover to be chopped here because the coronation took place in the city,” he said. — Bernama
