SEB to improve pure transmission, distribution systems
KUCHING: State power player Sarawak Energy Bhd (Sarawak Energy) plans to spend between RM8 to RM10 billion over the next ten years to improve its pure transmission and distribution systems across Sarawak.
This was among the highlights during Sarawak Energy’s media workshop on its business operations at Menara Sarawak Energy here yesterday.
“From now till 2025, we are going to spend about RM8 to RM10 billion to enhance power delivery and supply to our customers and consumers here,” explained chief executive officer Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit during the briefing.
Sarawak Energy is also making headwindswiththerecentapproval for its Social and Environmental Impact Assessment ( SEIA) on the Baleh Hydroelectric Project from the Natural Resources And Environmental Board (NREB).
It also continues to provide plenty of investments and job opportunities for Sarawakians along with other players within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
SCORE will see job creation with about 134,482 vacancies by the year 2030, ranging across professional, semi professional, support staff and general worker categories.
“Over the past six years, Sarawak Energy has incurred a total of RM17 billion on operational expenses and investment in capital projects. RM15.4 billion goes to local companies while only RM1.6 billion to be given to foreign companies,” Torstein explained.

companies and the workforce here are prioritised.”
For example, he said the Baleh Dam, which is an eight year project, is expected to generate a huge number of job opportunities for locals.
This was in line with growing demand for power which is expected to rise to 4,978MW by the year 2020 from 1,492MW seen in 2012, he said.
From 2009 to 2014, Torstein said Sarawak Energy achieved exponential growth as reflected by annual power sold increasing by 185 per cent, while number of power contracts signed increased 15 times since 2009.
