We support our leaders at the grassroots right up to the state level because we adhere to a healthy culture of respect and a sense of loyalty to the party and its leaders. Our members at all levels must uphold this healthy culture.

KAPIT: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) grassroots leaders have been asked to maintain the party’s culture of respect.

Jefferson Jamit Unyat — a political secretary to the Chief Minister — said PBB grassroots leaders should continue to demonstrate loyalty and be willing to make sacrifices in their efforts to serve the community.

“We support our leaders at the grassroots right up to the state level because we adhere to a healthy culture of respect and a sense of loyalty to the party and its leaders. Our members at all levels must uphold this healthy culture,” he said when launching a speech competition on Tuesday.

It was jointly organised by the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) and Kapit Parliamentary Service Centre.

Jefferson pointed out that Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia that does not have Umno.

“PBB, the backbone of Sarawak BN ( Barisan Nasional), is strong, able to work closely with other BN component parties and most importantly PBB truly champions the cause of every Anak Sarawak where the people are united politically towards development.

“This is our strength and capability and Umno realises this. They have full trust and confidence in our leadership under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who is party president,” he said.

He called on all PBB members to ensure Kapit remains a stronghold for the party.

“It’s the collective responsibility of all party members from all levels -- grassroots to top leadership, to continue to work hard, stay vigilant, be sensitive to the feedback from the ground and play our respective roles to the fullest,” he added.

“We’re now in the midst of preparing for the coming state election. I call on you to recruit more members, especially youths, because they’re our future leaders, actively participate in programmes or activities to make your presence felt, help to register voters in rural and urban centres, work with government departments to create impact and work closely with BN component parties.”
