‘Collaboration between cops, society needs enhancement’
KUALA LUMPUR: The police- society collaboration and cooperation needs to be strengthened to create a peaceful and prosperous nation, says Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said the police and society were inseparable in which the people and the security forces needed each other’s assistance.
“The community policing concept has been applied in the police planning and implementation, especially crime prevention.
“The Royal Malaysian Police ( PDRM) has always supported the community policing concept in creating understanding, trust and responsibility between PDRM and the society to curb crime,” he said in his speech during the 208th Police Day celebration at the Police Training Centre ( Pulapol) here yesterday.
The PDRM vision, in this aspect was to create awareness on the responsibilities and needs involving the people and the police to curb crime, he added.
“Alhamdulillah (All praise be to Allah), all the challenges have been overcome successfully...in fact, numerous transformations have also been conducted by PDRM, aimed at giving the best service to society,” said the inspector- general of police.
On the crime index, Khalid said it had reduced to 128,544 cases last year as compared to 147,062 cases in 2013, a decline of 18,518 cases or 12.6 per cent. Violent crime cases decreased to 3,950 cases or 13.4 per cent while property crimes reduced to 14,568 cases or 12.4 per cent.
Khalid said the people needed to continue to support and give cooperation to the police in creating a zero crime area, via being the ‘eyes and ears’ to assist the long arm of the law. — Bernama
