‘Open talent’ era requires one to be multi-skilled, civil servants told
PAUH PUTRA (ARAU): The ‘open talent’ era requires all civil servants to be multi- skilled and willing to learn new things to contribute to the advancement of their respective organisations and institutions, says Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
“As civil servants, it is important to be knowledgable and information disseminating agents capable of briging change in society, and not merely focus on the administrative aspects,” he said.
He was speaking at the Universiti Malaysia Perlis’s ( UniMAP) 2014 Anugerah Seri Gemilang awards ceremony at the Dewan Ilmu in the Pauh Putra campus on Tuesday night.
UniMAP Pro- Chancellor Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man, State Assembly Speaker Hamdan Bahari, Perlis State Secretary Romli Dai and UniMAP’s board of directors chairman Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Zainal Mohamed were also present.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also UniMAP chancellor, advised the university’s staff to always strive to remain professional, with traits of high commitment, hard work, responsibility, thoughtfulness, creativity and innovation, as well as motivation, competitiveness and accountability.
“In carrying out duties, ( you) need to act as one team. Everyone needs to contribute and be tolerant, respectful and share knowledge and expertise among one another towards achieving the vision.
“I am confident that if this is put into practice, we can create excellence. Therefore, it is important for us to be prudent and demonstrate traits of authority such as honesty, trustworthiness, ethics and consideration,” he said.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also advised civil servants to be prepared to further their studies and improve themselves for the wellbeing of their organisations.
During the ceremony, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin presented UniMAP Vice- Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin with the Perdana Seri Gemilang award, which was given out for the very first time.
