Police nab 6 for break-ins, 2 for snatching

KUCHING: Six persons, including a woman, were arrested early yesterday by Padawan police in connection with three break-in cases in a single night two weeks ago.

The suspects, aged 25 to 40, were picked up by CID personnel in three separate locations at Kampung Haji Baki and along Jalan Penrissen. They were remanded for further investigat­ion.

Padawan district police chief Supt Ng Ah Lek, who confirmed the arrests when contacted yesterday, said they were believed to have broken into a secondary school, a kindergart­en and the Forestry Department Research Centre.

“The suspects, who are all friends, committed the crime in a single night about two weeks ago in Mile 3 and Kota Sentosa. During the arrests, we managed to recover a number of laptops, mobile phones, a projector, power banks, and a motorcycle,” said Ng, adding that police will be investigat­ing the six to determine if they were also involved in other crimes in the district.

police headquarte­rs intercepte­d one of the suspects while he was driving a Perodua Myvi behind a pub at Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim around 4.30am yesterday. The 28-year- old suspect from Taman Alamanda Indah in Batu Kawah was subsequent­ly detained after a check on the car found it had been fitted with false licence plates. Later the same morning, police went to a house at Kampung Tabuan Hilir where they detained the second suspect, a 28-year- old, who was found to be high on drugs at the time.

Both men were detained for further investigat­ion of an incident on March 16 in which they are suspected to have used the rented car to snatch a handbag belonging to a 55-year- old cleaner while she was waiting at a bus stop along Jalan Pending.
