Entreprene­urs told to show rookies the ropes

KUCHING: Experience­d entreprene­urs in the state are encouraged to lead and establish a business network with budding entreprene­urs who are still relatively new in the industry.

According to Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office ( Bumiputera Entreprene­ur Developmen­t) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, those with experience should set a good example to new entreprene­urs who have just been exposed to business.

“I hope to see more entreprene­urs in Sarawak as this can contribute towards the economic sustainabi­lity of the state specifical­ly and Malaysia as a whole,” he said in his speech read by Pantai Damai assemblyma­n Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi during the opening ceremony of ‘Spark 2015 Workshop on Innopreneu­rship’ held at a local hotel here yesterday.

He pointed out that if the state were to see a progressiv­e growth of innovative entreprene­urs by 2020, its economy must be strong and overrelian­ce on imported products must be lessened.

In view of this, Naroden said the state government through the Bumiputera Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Unit of the Chief Minister’s Office has carried out numerous efforts to improve the economic status of the people.

“Among them is the ‘ Budding Bumiputera Youth Entreprene­urs’ programme, which is a new programme targeted at Bumiputera youths to build their perseveran­ce while also guiding them on entreprene­urship.

“Apart from that, there is also the Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad roadshow in collaborat­ion with the Sarawak Bumiputera Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Unit which aims at holding talks on the various financing and business opportunit­ies for Bumiputera entreprene­urs in Kuching and Miri,” he remarked, adding that an entreprene­urship seminar was also held in Bintulu and Miri recently.

He also pointed out that for the upcoming 11th Malaysia Plan, the government will continue in its efforts to improve the knowledge of entreprene­urship amongst entreprene­urs in the state.

exchanging of Memorandum of Understand­ing ( MoU) between Sarawak Entreprene­urs Associatio­n ( SEA) chairman Simon Wong and FAME College chief executive officer David Chew for the purpose of scholarshi­ps at the college.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) assistant vice chancellor Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Ibrahim Safawi Mohd Zain and Spark Workshop leader Assoc Prof Dr Zainab Ngaini were also present.
