Report lodged against GOF man for harbouring Suluks
MIRI: The Immigration Department has lodged a police report against a member of the General Operations Force ( GOF) for harbouring Suluk fishermen operating here.
Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the report was lodged during an operation last week after a tipoff from local fishermen.

“Police confirm receiving a report from the Immigration Department towards this GOF personnel and an investigation is still being carried out,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.
Stanley said the police have taken action against the person in question and the case has been referred to the GOF commanding officer in Kuching.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency ( MMEA) Miri commanding officer Syed Nor Adli Syed Abdul Rahman said a joint taskforce led by MMEA at sea is continuing with operations.
“We are still focused with the operation, getting information from fishermen and relevant parties, as we are going all out against these illegal fishermen,” he said when contacted.
The joint taskforce of agencies is working to ensure there are no illegal immigrants here, particularly Suluk fishermen competing with locals in Miri waters.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has vowed to free the state of illegal immigrants before the issue becomes too serious to handle as experienced in Sabah.
