KUCHING: Kuching City South Council ( MBKS) has allocated RM20 million this year for the re- surfacing of roads within its jurisdiction.

This was revealed by its mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn after the council’s seventh meeting yesterday.

“The council has identified those roads to be resurfaced and also drains that need to be repaired. The money is not for building new drains but those drains that have collapsed,” he said, adding that the people could call them if drains in their areas were not in good shape.

Chan said the city councillors would monitor these projects.

The mayor also said the council had some funds to manage localised floods caused by major development in the city.

Chan also advised utility companies to do their work on specified time to avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

He disclosed that in 2014, the council spent RM9 million of federal fund for road resurfacing work alone.

Earlier, he presented a MBKS mascot and Kuching City logo T- shirts to the leader of a dance academy in the city which is bringing 65 dancers to a competition in the USA.

“This is to show the council’s gratitude to these young people who make Kuching City proud in representing Malaysia,” he said.
