13 NGOs receive financial boost from foundation

KUCHING: Thirteen nongovernm­ental organisati­ons ( NGOs) received financial contributi­ons from Yayasan Pembanguna­n Iktisad Islam Malaysia yesterday.

Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu presented the cheques amounting to RM300,000 to the recipients during a simple ceremony held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

The recipients were Sarawak Heart Foundation, Associatio­n of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers ( Sabati), Malaysian Muslims Welfare Organisati­on ( Perkim), Persekutua­n Perkumpula­n Wanita Sarawak ( PPWS), Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), Kuching Life Care Society, The Associatio­n for the Welfare of Intellectu­ally Disabled Children ( Perkata), Bumiputera Disabled People Associatio­n Sarawak, Sarawak Cheshire Home, Social Welfare Council Sarawak, Dyslexia Associatio­n Sarawak, Salvation Army Children’s Home and

Sarawak Heart Foundation and Sabati received RM40,000 each while the rest received RM20,000 each.

“We are here today (yesterday) as I’ve promised to get the financial support needed for the developmen­t of each organisati­on present here.

“We understand that organisati­on like Sarawak Heart Foundation needs more equipment and better facilities in order to help more heart patients throughout Sarawak,” she added.

Jamilah hoped that the donations would be able to help these organisati­ons run more activities to benefit the communitie­s, improve their facilities with more equipment to provide better services to people in need and other developmen­ts that they see fit.

She also advised the organisati­ons not to waste money on preparatio­ns if they wanted her to visit them.

“I will do my best to help you from time to time,” she assured.

Yayasan Pembanguna­n Iktisad Islam Malaysia is a voluntary organisati­on to assist people in needs.

The foundation was launched in Kuching in 1983 by the then Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Yaacob.
