Call for Armed Forces veterans, non-members to attend third annual general meeting tomorrow

-

KUCHING: Veteran Association of Malaysian Armed Forces ( PVATM) Mambong branch is inviting non-members as well to turn out in full force at its third annual general meeting to be held at St Paul Parish Hall along Jalan Puncak Borneo tomorrow.

High on the agenda is an undisclosed resolution, said a member of the Mambong exco who said Armed Forces veterans in the area were all welcomed to attend, including non-members who are still unregistered.

“By attending the meeting, they will be updated on the programmes carried out by the government to improve the wellbeing of the veterans and families.

“This is the best avenue because it is almost impossible for us to visit each and every one of them to explain the benefits they can get from the government,” he said.

He added there were several facilities that veterans could request for through the Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) but many were not even aware of it as they were not registered as members.

He said registration for members will start at 8am while the arrival of guest of honour, Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dato Sri Dr James Dawos Mamit, was expected at 8.45am.

According to

him,

First Division Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw will also be present to bestow Pingat Jasa Malaysia ( PJM) medals on 20 members, including six posthumously.

“Our branch will discuss on one very pertinent issue in this AGM and the resolution, if agreed upon by the majority of members, will be submitted to the state level for deliberation at its delegates’ conference in September.

“We will keep the issue to ourselves first for the time being and will make it public if the resolution is passed by the members,” he stressed. The official revealed that PVATM Mambong branch was formed in 2012.
