Currently Kapit has eight haemodialysis machines, with one malfunctioning, while Song has three such machines.
The idea to form the association is to have a platform to get financial assistance for kidney patients in the division irrespective of racial background, he said.
He added that among the task of the pro-tem committee is to get the association registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) as soon as possible and to get detailed and comprehensive statistics on kidney patients in Kapit Division.
“Once we are registered with ROS, we can then carry out our activities legally and from there we can bring in more members to join the association,” said Elvis.
At the meeting, the committee collected RM1,160 from the members who were present for the association to open an account.
