GOF corporal, 3 civilians nabbed for robbery

MIRI: Police here have arrested a GOF (General Operations Force) corporal and three civilians in connection with Tuesday’s armed robbery of a hypermarke­t’s fourday collection of nearly half a million ringgit.

The arrests led to the recovery of RM378,587 out of the RM478,619.30 seized during the robbery.

The money was recovered at the house of the GOF personnel in Taman Tunku early yesterday morning. The arrests were made less than 48 hours after the armed robbery reportedly occurred last Tuesday morning.

The arrest was made during a raid led by Inspector Nasrul Hadi Jahat around 4.45am today (yesterday) acting on public tip-offs.

“The arrest was made during a raid led by Inspector Nasrul Hadi Jahat around 4.45am today ( yesterday) acting on public tipoffs,” explained Gan.

He said a team of Miri CID police discovered and seized the cash which was concealed inside a luggage during the raid. Gan added police were still looking for the rest of the cash.In the house, police also found six receipts of furniture purchase amounting to RM13,000, apart from two branded sunglasses, an ASUS phone, a scooter and a motorcycle helmet.

“The scooter was found in a bush area near the MDL Garden here early this morning ( yesterday) around 1am,” said Gan.

All four suspects are remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigat­ion. The case is investigat­ed under Section 395/ 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and/or whipping upon conviction.
