‘Complete electricity project at Bengoh Resettlement Centre’

-

KUCHING: The government has been urged to quickly complete the electricity supply project at Bengoh Resettlement Centre.

A member of DAP Mambong, Sanjan Daik, claimed there were complaints by residents that the electrical work had not been completed although the hightension cables were already in place about a year ago.

He further claimed that upon close inspection of the electric posts along the road between Semadang and Bengoh Resettlement Centre, it was the sub- line cables that were not connected to the cables leading to the individual houses. Meters were also not yet installed at the individual houses.

“I don’t understand why the government is not taking any action for slow delivery of the project. Maybe it is waiting for the next election to complete the project,” said Sanjan, also a political secretary to state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“Because of the delay in completing the project, the villagers have to rely on individual diesel- powered generators which cost them about RM500 a month per household which is rather expensive for them”.

On another matter, Sanjan said an Education Camp organised by Impian Sarawak at Kampung Bunuk from May 1 to 3 was a great success despite various obstacles and challenges faced by the team.

About 50 children ranging from 10 to 12 years old from the village were taught English, Mathematics and Science in interactive small- group activities conducted by 15 Impian Sarawak volunteers at the church hall.

The camp was conducted at the church hall after the village headman denied permission to use the community hall.

Sanjan called upon all the villagers to be united when dealing with matters of common interest (education) by putting aside their religious or political differences, for the benefits of the younger generation.

The camp was officially closed by DAP Mambong branch chairman, Chang Hon Hiung who also emphasised the importance of education for the children’s future. He said the Education Camp was the third of its kind to be held in the Penrissen area.
