Unimas students to showcase final year project at Cipta

KUCHING: The final year students of Applied and Creative Arts at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) will be showcasing works from their research and final year project at the university’s ‘Cetusan Inspirasi Pelajar Tahun Akhir’ ( Cipta) programme from June 8 to 13.

The faculty’s senior lecturer, Dr Qistina Donna Lee Abdullah, said the annual event had become a major event for the faculty which comprised music, film, animation, graphic design, industrial design, textile and fashion design, photograph­y, ceramics, paintings, integrated arts and arts management.

“Cipta serves as a platform to showcase the final year students’ works as well as for intellectu­al discourse on new ideas, products, services, activities and strategies in applied arts and creative industries.

“It is also an avenue for networking and collaborat­ion among students, academia and profession­als from commercial industries, government sector and agencies, non-profit organisati­ons, small and medium enterprise­s ( SME) and individual­s with interests in research and developmen­t and commercial­isation,” she said.

Lee was part of the delegation led by Unimas Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts dean Dr Wan Jamarul Imran Wan Abdullah Thani who paid a courtesy call on Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Developmen­t Datuk Fatimah Abdullah at her office here yesterday to invite her to

“This year, we have more than 700 Applied and Creative Arts students graduating and only the best works will be showcased during the exhibition.

“Our week-long event will also include a colloquium and Cipta concert,” she said.

Meanwhile, Fatimah said Cipta would be an eye- opening experience for students particular­ly those from Sekolah Seni Malaysia, Kuching.

“Through Cipta, they will be aware of the various applied and creative arts courses available at Unimas such as fine arts, design and technology, cinematogr­aphy, music, drama and arts management.

“By exploring these areas, they can enhance their potential when they complete their secondary education.”

Also present during the courtesy call was Unimas’ Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts senior assistant registrar Masle Terhim.
