Hygiene drive launched at SK Semerah Padi

KUCHING: Antabax, an antibacter­ial personal care product brand, gave Sarawak the honour to launch its National Hygiene Campaign and CLAP Competitio­n 2015.

Sarawak was chosen as the state recorded the highest number of HFMD cases ( 6,333) in Malaysia from January to April 11 this year.

The objective of the campaign is to reduce the spread of communicab­le diseases, in particular hand, foot and mouth disease (HMFD).

Antabax staff spent an hourand-a-half with the primary school children of Sekolah Kebangsaan ( SK) Semerah Padi, the venue chosen for the campaign on good hygiene using their product to wash hands as well as introduce

In the morning, the programme started with a health workshop themed ‘Always Be Clean (ABC)’ and ‘ Let’s Put Hand Hygiene Into Practice’ by introducin­g the National CLAP competitio­n as the highlight.

CLAP is an acronym for Clean your hands, Learn correct hand hygiene, Apply correct hand washing steps and Practice makes perfect.

The competitio­n focuses on percussive rhythms and a capella singing to reinforce hygienic habits besides highlighti­ng the importance of hands in our daily lives.

It offers a total prize of RM32,000 for four categories - Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Open for non- students or those who wish to join with their family or f riends.

Angeline Sim, who is group product manager ( Household and Personal Care) of Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, said Antabax had run annual public education and awareness programmes on hygiene since their first CSR initiative in 2009.

“We have reached approximat­ely 10 million Malaysians through education programmes,” she said before the launch.

She added that their target is to reach all Malaysians through innovative, memorable programmes that are relevant and educationa­l so good health and hygiene become a habit across the nation.

The first prize for each category is RM5,000, first runner-up gets RM3,000 while second runner-up, RM1,000.

Washing hands with soap and water is the most effective and inexpensiv­e way to prevent diarrhoea and pneumonia, while better hand hygiene can reduce incidences of HFMD, influenza, colds, coughs and other communicab­le diseases.

Antabax will visit 30 more primary schools across Malaysia throughout May, June and July this year.
