Chinese VIPs treated to river cruise

KUCHING: It was a memorable night for everyone on board the Sarawak River Cruise when Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) hosted a dinner for the delegation of Da Li Prefecture, Yunna Province in China, on Wednesday.

The dinner was made merrier with the presence of guest of honour Second Minister of Finance and Minister of Local Government and Community Developmen­t Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Datuk Bandar of DBKU Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai and DBKU member Dato Wee Hong Seng were also present.

Liang Zhimin, honorary president of Foreign Friendship Associatio­n, Da Li Prefecture headed the delegation.

Members included vice prefecture governor of Dali Prefecture Wang Yizhi, director of Foreign Affairs Office Ma Wei, mayor of Da Li city Li Fuan, head of Wei Shan County Wang Liwei, head of Bin Chuan County A Zexin and president of Bin Jie Agricultur­al Product Corporatio­n Zhang Dongmei.

The Bai ethnic group prefecture, Dali Bai ethnic group prefecture, Yunnan Province, made a two-day visit starting May 6 to the state.

During the dinner, the delegates were served Sarawak local dishes including the famous bamboo chicken, and layer cake as one of the desserts.

They were also entertaine­d to traditiona­l dances on the upper deck of the cruise and were given briefings on the Kuching Waterfront as well as trademark places surroundin­g its areas.

A karaoke session was also held, during which some of the delegate members took the opportunit­y to show off their vocals with several popular Chinese songs.
