MCC hopes to create new M’sian record at 10th anniversar­y do

MIRI: In conjunctio­n with Miri City’s 10th anniversar­y celebratio­n this year, the Miri City Council ( MCC) is hoping to create a new record worthy of entry into the Malaysia Book of Records.

Its mayor Lawrence Lai said the 14th record that they hoped to achieve was ‘The Largest Number of Participan­ts in Reggaeton Workout, Warm Up’.

“The record-making attempt would be conducted on the same day as Miri City Day Run 2015 ( May 17) at the Miri Marina ParkCity,” he told a press conference yesterday, adding that about 10,000 people were expected to join in the event.

Lai said more than 9,000 people had confirmed their participat­ion in the record-making attempt.

The chief minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu, will the guest of-honour and she will be there to witness the recordmaki­ng attempt at 7am.

Meanwhile, seven dance studios and fitness centres will conduct the 20-minute reggaeton workout, an exercise with a combinatio­n of zumba, aerobic and fitness.

Jamilah will then flag- off the 10km run followed by 5km run at the same venue.

For the Miri City Day Run, Lai called on all the runners to come before 6am for registrati­on.

He said the 10km run offered a total prize money of RM21,300 for the top 10 winners in six categories - Men Open, Women Open, Men Veteran, Women Veteran, Boys Junior and Girls Junior.

“The winners in each category will receive RM1,000 for first, RM700 (second), RM500 (third), RM350 (fourth), RM300 (fifth), RM250 (sixth), RM200 (seventh), RM150 (eighth) and RM50 each for ninth and tenth winner. They will also receive medal and certificat­e of participat­ion each.

Those interested to join the competitio­n can obtain the entry forms by downloadin­g them from the council’s official website.

For the early birds, the registrati­on fee is RM30 per person for those who make payment before May 5. Full payment of RM50 will be charged after that.

Completed registrati­on forms with payment must be submitted to Miri Public Library on or before May 12.

The record-making attempt would be conducted on the same day as Miri City Day Run 2015 (May 17) at the Miri Marina ParkCity.
