Sunday School holds celebration in Long Laput

-

MIRI: More than 200 Sunday School children from nine Borneo Evangelical Missionary ( BEM) churches in Baram took part in a three- day celebration in Long Laput, Baram.

It was organised by Central Baram Zone Sunday School.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau officiated at the opening.

“Sunday School plays an important role in teaching children about the Bible and events like this one allow the children to show their parents and elders what they have learnt through the years,” Dennis said.

He called on parents to continue sending their children to Sunday School as it would help them in the years to come.

Dennis shared about his own Sunday School experience which helped make him who he is today.

“If our children are sent to Sunday School from a very young age, they will grow into better persons,” he said.

He advised parents to be responsible for the future of their children by educating them, and that includes religion.

All nine BEM churches competed in a solo singing competition, choir, duet and bible story-telling competition.

At the function, Dennis announced a RM10,000 Minor Rural Project ( MRP) grant for upgrading the pastor’s house at BEM Long Laput, a RM5,000 MRP grant for organising the Choir Singing Competition for Central Baram Zone and RM7,000 for the Central Baram Zone Sunday School Committee.

Also present were Temenggong Elizabeth Deng, Councillor Jaraw Braim and chairman of BEM Central Baram, Pastor Thomas Anyie.
