150 students learn about hospitalit­y industry

KUCHING: Some 150 students from local higher learning institutio­ns got an insight into the world of hospitalit­y at Hilton Kuching’s career open day yesterday.

hospitalit­y industry and held various demonstrat­ions and giving practical hints, tips and advices.

General manager Jon Warmington, in his welcoming speech, said there is a very wide range of opportunit­ies offering exciting careers in the hospitalit­y industry. He said throughout this month, Hilton Worldwide hotels and corporate offices around the globe are hosting hundreds of events to publicise the available vast array of careers for young people to know about.

“When you work in the hospitalit­y line, you have the chance to meet a lot of people from all over the world. You also have the chance to travel and work in many places around the world.

“We are very delighted and passionate about raising this awareness among the youth and we are doing this through one of our biggest ever career events across the globe,” he said. He explained that this event was part of the Bright Blue Futures, a global programme that encourages team members to contribute their time and expertise to help young people achieve stability, brings hope to their communitie­s, and prepares them for a brighter future.

According to marketing and communicat­ions manager Fiona Kho, Hilton Kuching took part in the ‘Careers@ Hilton Live: Youth in the Hospitalit­y Month’, Hilton Worldwide’s largest ever global career event. She said it was part of the Hilton Worldwide’s open doors commitment which aimed to give impact to at least one million young people by 2019. Those who missed yesterday’s open day can still learn more about careers in the hospitalit­y by submitting their questions online via Twitter using hashtag ‘# CareersatH­ilton’, or through the form at website ‘www. hiltonworl­dwide.com/youth’.

Each week in this month, this website will be updated to host a selection of the submitted questions which are answered by a panel of Hilton Worldwide team members.
