Johor Sultan orders GST implementa­tion constantly studied for suitabilit­y

JOHOR BAHARU: The implementa­tion of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which began last month should be constantly monitored and studied for its suitabilit­y, said Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

He said an in- depth study was conducted by the federal government before the tax system was introduced for the benefit of the government and people.

However, he commented on the imposition of the GST on services provided by the local government and authoritie­s ( PBT) to the people.

“Iamaskingt­hestategov­ernment and PBT not to impose the GST on services provided to the people and ask that exemption be given by the federal government,” he said when officiatin­g the opening of the third term of the 13th Johor State Legislativ­e Assembly sitting at the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, here yesterday.

He said it was inconceiva­ble to impose the GST on government services which are the basic responsibi­lities to the people.

The sitting will begin this Sunday until May 18. Also present at the ceremony was Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim.

On Wednesday, the Domestic Trade, Cooperativ­es and Consumeris­m ( KPDNKK) Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek was reported to have said that the leave of 2,405 enforcemen­t officers and staff of the ministry had been frozen since last month to ensure that all complaints about the GST would be attended to.
