“Female participation in the labour force has increased steadily over the years and according to a Chinese saying ‘Women hold up half the sky’,” he said when launching the Women’s Health Awareness Programme held by UPP at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall yesterday.

Present were its organising chairlady Irene Wong, a political secretary to the chief minister and UPP Miri Women section head Suzanne Lee, UPP Senadin chairman councillor Keith Chin and UPP Pujut chairman councillor Bruce Chai.

According to Hii, last year 53.6 per cent of Malaysian women were in the workforce, as compared to 46.8 per cent in 2010.

He paid tribute to many working ladies, saying they were ‘superwomen’ because they also had duties and responsibilities as a mother, spouse and caregiver.

Meanwhile, Hii urged the public not to take anything for granted, especially their health as life is short and precious and urged them to go for regular health examinations.

The one- day programme was organised by UPP Miri Region Women section.
