PENAMPANG: Delegates at Parti Bersatu Sabah’s ( PBS) 30th annual conference yesterday passed a resolution allowing for the election of its supreme council to be held in 2018 instead of next year.

The passing of the resolution by about 600 delegates put a stop to speculations that party president Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan 75, will be stepping down from the post as PBS head.

Tabled by PBS secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun, the resolution called for the party’s election to be held in 2018 without putting aside Article 63 of PBS’ constitution.

“Taking into consideration all aspects of importance and for the future of PBS, including the huge possibility that the 14th general election will be held in 2018, I suggest that the election of the party’s supreme council members be held in 2018,” he said.

Mositun said that it is PBS’ tradition to hold the party’s election a year after the election of divisional and branch leaders.

“This tradition has been carried out well in the past 30 years and as a result, the management as well as administration of the party is more effective and orderly.

“As PBS’ divisional and branch elections were held in 2014, the next election for the divisional and branch leadership will only be held in 2017,” he pointed out.
