Teachers play crucial roles in developing quality human capital
MIRI: Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan has reminded teachers of the crucial role they play in developing quality human capital.
“The effectiveness of the education system is manifested in producing quality human capital that will contribute towards the development of the country,” he said when officiating at SM Sains Miri Charity Dinner cum Silver Jubilee celebration recently.
“The country is developing rapidly towards achieving developed nation status in 2020, hence we need highly innovative, creative and skilled workforce that can only be produced if we have high quality human capital.”
Awang Tengah also called on students to master not only the English language but also other languages such as Mandarin, Arabic and also Japanese.
He said it was important to be fluent in more than one language in order to be competitive especially in the global job market.
On another note, Awang Tengah hoped that SM Sains Miri would continue to produce excellent students and giving their students access to quality education as they were the future leaders of the country.
The dinner was held to raise fund for the National Cancer Council of Malaysia ( Makna). It was also to raise funds to assist one of the school’s staff with health problem as well as to fund repair works on the school’s infrastructure.
Awang Tengah praised the school’s noble efforts saying that such attitude should be emulated by students.
Also present at the dinner were Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus and state education department director Serina Sauni who were both former principals of the school, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Principal Mohd Dzul Badli and PTA president Sapri Paee.
At the function, Awang Tengah announced RM 30,000 grant from his Minor Rural Project ( MRP) fund for the school and sponsored popular singer Bob of Akademi Fantasia (AF) who performed at the dinner. Rosey and Ripin also contributed RM 15,000 each to the school.
