Be united in giving Chinese education priority — Liu
KUCHING: The Chinese need to become a united front if they are to walk the talk of placing Chinese education above all, said Pemanca Liu Thian Leong.
The president of Federation of Boards of Management of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Aided Chinese Primary Schools noted that though the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had reached out to the Chinese community and Chinese education the community still seemed to have separate voices.
“The Chinese seriously need to ponder over their ultimate goal, whether it is for personal vested interest or the overall benefit of the entire community.
“If we cannot come together as one and work closely for the sake of the community and Chinese schools, our efforts to take Chinese education to another level may end up stagnant,” he said at the prize presentation of the 11th Kuching- Samarahan Aided Chinese Primary Schools Dance Competition here on Saturday.
Liu, who is also United People’s Party ( UPP) Batu Kawa branch chairman, said the competition was held to promote and further develop Chinese cultural dances among the young.
The event was also aimed at enlightening the younger generation on Chinese arts and culture so that they would be proud of their heritage instead of being deeply influenced by western culture, he added.
He noted that the local native dances were graceful while the Chinese traditional dances manifested cheerfulness.
“Every traditional dance is one of a kind. As far as Chinese traditional dances are concerned, I feel that there is still room for improvement so that our dancers can bring out elegance in their dances.”
