UPP to host seminar on ‘Women and Politics’ in Sibu Nov 29
SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) Central Women Committee will hold ‘Women and Politics’ seminar on Nov 29, beginning 9am at Kingwood Hotel here.
Organising chairperson Ashley Tong said they had invited two eminent speakers from Peninsular Malaysia for the seminar.
The speakers Chang Su Chean and Cheang Yee Wen will share their experiences and knowledge in politics as well as on family law and women’s rights.
“The objective of the seminar is to highlight the importance, roles and responsibilities of women in politics.
“The number of women in politics is relatively low and a lot of people claim this is because omen are not suitable, incapable and unwilling to participate in the matter,” she said yesterday.
She said, however, that women took part in politics not only to fight for power and position but also to break their silent status in the matter.
“More importantly, women can improve themselves socio- economically through their involvement in politics,” she said.
Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also UPP president, will be the guest of honour at the seminar.
Entrance is free and early birds will get door gifts worth RM35 each. For further details, contact 016- 8701715 or 019- 8595595.
