Resource centre to benefit villagers in Nangka

SIBU: The government has allocated RM4.5 million to build a resource centre for villages in the Nangka constituen­cy through the Rural Transforma­tion Programme ( RTP).

Nangka assemblyma­n Dr Annuar Rapaee said the constructi­on of the centre will cost RM500,000 and is scheduled to take five years to complete once it begins in January 2016.

The villages that will benefit from it include Kampung Datu, Kampung Datu Bahru, Kampung Hilir, Kampung Jeriah, Kampung Seduan, Kampung Nangka, Kampung Hijrah, Kampung Bahagia Jaya and three longhouses.

“This resource centre can accommodat­e 100 students and is equipped with a library, recreation­al areas and meeting rooms to cater to the need of the local community,” Dr Annuar said when officiatin­g at the certificat­e and gift presentati­on ceremony for Tadika Hikmah Sibu 2015 at a hotel here yesterday.

Present was Tadika Hikmah Sibu Parent-Teacher Associatio­n president Helmi Junaidi.

Yayasan Asia also sponsored 500 English textbooks to nine primary schools in Nangka. The books will be used for the ‘ I Speak English’ programme which will be launched next year.

Selected schools for the programme include SK Abang Ali, SK Agama, SK St Mary, SK Nanga Bon, SK Ulu Sungai Merah, SK Batu 10, SK Bahagia Jaya, SK Batu 15 and SK Bandaran No. 3.

Dr Annuar said the objective of the programme is to strengthen the English language among the younger generation.
