Anglican churches to hold fundraising dinner in Miri on Nov 20

-

MIRI: The Northern Archdeaconry of the Diocese of Kuching will hold a fundraising dinner at a leading hotel here on Nov 20, to raise funds for the church ministry throughout the Diocese of Kuching and beyond.

Over 750 diners from throughout the Northern Archdeaconry covering Sibu, Miri, Limbang and Brunei are expected to attend.

According to the event’s spokesperson, Reverend Donald Jude, the dinner will be graced by the Archbishop of the Province of Southeast Asia and the Bishop of Kuching, Most Reverend Datuk Bolly Lapok.

“Other guests expected to attend the dinner are Assistant Bishop of Kuching Solomon Cheong; Archdeacon Chimbie Bunsie, Archdeacon Nelson Ugas and several political and community leaders,” he said.

The Northern Archdeaconry is under the watch of Archdeacon Jamal Senada, who is acting as an advisor for the event.

The organising chairman of the event is Rev Stanley Bunseng of St Barnabas’ Parish in Taman Tunku.

“The Diocese of Kuching is part of the Province of the Anglican Church in Southeast Asia, which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

“In its early days, most of the works were supported and financed by overseas churches and missionaries. These include the fields of education, medical and socio- economic.

“Now, the local church is standing on its own for manpower and funds and it seeks to continue and advance the good works of the forefathers,” explained Rev. Donald.

For more details on the fundraising dinner, interested Church members and members of the public may contact the organising secretary, Nelson Tandang at 0168723584 or their local parish offices.
