Mustafar: MACC studies complaints first before conducting probe

-

MELAKA: The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) studies all information or complaints on corruption first before an investigation is carried out, said its deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.

He was commenting on the call by Janda Baik Action Committee chairman Mohd Fauzi Abd Latif for MACC to investigate claims that logging caused the mudslide at Kilometre 52.4 of the Kuala Lumpur- Karak Highway last Wednesday.

The mudslide cut off the main artery from the Klang valley to the east coast of the peninsula.

Mustafar said the procedure had to be observed as the MACC did not want to accept all allegations of corruption without studying them first as not all complaints or information could be immediately linked to corruption.

“We cannot charge or say there is definitely corruption when we accept complaints or information from certain parties. It must be studied first to find out the truth,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Mustafar who received the Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka ( DCSM) award which carries the title ‘ Datuk Wira’ was met at the Melaka State Investiture ceremony 2015 at Seri Negeri here, held for 445 award recipients, officiated by Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob in conjunction with his 77th birthday celebrations. — Bernama
