Solid Chinese support vital in reviving SUPP, says president

-

KUCHING: SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian believes that with solid support from the Chinese, the party would be able to represent the community in the government better.

As such, he is urging the Chinese to support SUPP candidates in the next state election.

“Save us, save SUPP, for the betterment of our future. Our candidates are our future leaders for the next 10, 20 years, out to fight for our welfare and interest,” he said at SUPP Kuching’s Chinese New Year dinner here on Monday.

“This is a critical time for the Chinese, but it is also the chance to change the political scene where there is a lack of Chinese representation in the government.

“Moreover, winning (in the state election) will also ‘ revive’ the party, which had lost so many (seats) in the past election.”

Dr Sim said the Chinese needed better representation in the government to look after their rights and interests.

“Many predict that Barisan Nasional ( BN) would win in the next election and thereafter, rule the state.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem doesn’t need the Chinese votes to win with big majority, but he does hope that we ( SUPP) would win and bring in more Chinese representatives.

“Not all chief ministers would think like him (Adenan),” he said.

Dr Sim also said the people should fully support Adenan and give him another five years to deliver his promises. “I believe that many people have been unhappy over the past 30 years. Only after Datuk Patinggi Adenan became chief minister that the people are happy again.

“Let us all support him and allow him to regain our state’s rights and autonomy.”

The dinner was also attended by SUPP Kuching chairperson Datuk Lily Yong.
