CM to launch home for people with special needs project

SIBU: A RM13- million project to build a ‘ Sheltered Workplace & Independen­t Living Training Home’ next to the Agape Centre in Alan Road will be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem this Friday at 3pm.

The home is for children and adults with special needs.

Project organising chairman Dr Toh Teck Hock said the project covering some 2.3 acres is sponsored by KTS Group.

“It will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase on the provision of facilities for workshops, laundry, bakery, carwashing and handicraft training to be completed within two years,” he told a press conference yesterday.

It will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase on the provision of facilities for workshops, laundry, bakery, car-washing and handicraft training to be completed within two years.

Wong Ley Nam from KTS Group were among those present at the press conference.

Dr Toh, who is also ACSNS secretary, said the proposed two- storey building would have room for expansion over the next 10 years.

“It is going to be a place where people with special needs can acquire living skills to enable them to live independen­tly,” he said.

Upon completion, the project would be the first of its kind in the state, he said.

He also said Local Government and Community Developmen­t Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and KTS Group managing director Dato Henry Lau Lee Kong would be among those delivering a speech during the launching ceremony.
