Free T-shirts for first 200 early birds in run
SIBU: Those joining the inaugural Tang Ka Seng Memorial Run at Bukit Lima Sentosa Park this April 17 are reminded to register early to get free T-shirts.
Event co- organiser Hii Yien Nyuk of Kelab Sukan Marathon Extreme (KSME) said free T-shirts would only be given to the fi rst 200 early birds. The closing date is March 10. On the prizes, Hii said it would depend on the sponsors.
“The run is to mark the first anniversary of Ka Seng, who passed away on July 17, 2015.
“Let us show our support for the man who had made immense contributions towards the establishment of KSME,” she said, recalling how Ka Seng had throughout his life worked hard to ensure that KSME would remain relevant as a sports body in the state.
Established in 1989 and initially known as Sibu Marathon Sports Club (SMSC), the club changed its name to KSME in 2013.
The club has produced many outstanding runners, among them women runners like Ling Mee Eng, Choo Ngiik Hung and Lee Leh Ha. The runners met daily to do their training and it is said that Ka Seng would personally supervise the attendance of the runners.
The annual Jubilee Park Sarawak Health Marathon Run is one of its most successful events. It was staged for the first time in 2000 and since then, it has been attracting runners from throughout the country as well as overseas.
The run is divided into Men’s and Women’s 6km, with an entry fee of RM30 per person.
