KUALA LUMPUR: Classroom connection with the real world is no longer sufficient at the local level but now needs to extend into the global market, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said in the ever changing market and demands, the students were required to be more critical minded, versatile and adaptable.

“The Ministry of Education is on a mission to revamp the education system, taking into account rising international education standards and renewed national aspirations,” he said when officiating at the International Conference on Teaching and Learning 2016 (ICTLE 2016), here yesterday.

In reference to the Malaysian Education blueprint 20132025, he said there were 11 key thrusts for transformation of the Malaysian education system which highlighted the importance of global needs. Among them was to provide wider and equal access to education institution of international standards, promote the use information and communication technology ( ICT) and produce a generation with strong national identity, he said.

The two- day ICTLE 2016, which began yesterday, provides a platform for aspiring teachers, educators and researchers to explore the possibilities of new advancement in teaching and learning, especially in higher education classrooms.

Mahdzir said as teachers and educators, it was their job to guide the future generation so that they became responsible consumers of information.
