Police seek informatio­n on hit-and-run case

MARUDI: Traffic police here have appealed to the public for any informatio­n on a hit-andrun incident at Jalan Beluru-Long Lapok Road on Feb 25, which led to the death of a motorcycli­st.

It is believed that the accident occurred around 8pm near Sungai Lutong longhouse.

ASP Jaimi Hussein told the media Thursday that the 51-year- old victim, Kilat Paing, was hit from behind by a Toyota Hilux. The accident knocked him unconsciou­s and he was brought to the Beluru Clinic by family members.

Due to the seriousnes­s of his condition, Kilat was referred to Miri Hospital that same night. The resident of Rumah Mathew Tiri Sungai Mangka, Seruas, Bakong died at the hospital on Tuesday at 11.30pm.

Following a post-mortem on Wednesday, Kilat’s body was brought back to his longhouse for burial.

Investigat­ing officer ASP Mike Ibrahim called on those who witnessed the accident to contact him on 013- 8882322 or 085-755221 extension 205.

Meanwhile, Mike said police would conduct traffic operations at roads such as Beluru, Long Lapok and Long Lama where road users often did not have a valid driving license or wear helmets.

Last year, 946 summonses were issued in Baram District with compounds totalling RM94,100. There were a total of eight fatalities on the road, mostly involving timber camp workers.
