‘Workshop and training home to help those in need’

-

SIBU: The Sheltered Workshop and Independent Living Training Home will complement the existing Agape Centre to assist members of the community in need of help such as the disabled.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said between three and five per cent of society would always require assistance.

“Agape Centre and with this one being completed later will have the entire project encompassing all sectors – all the functions that will enable us to help those who need help. It is a project that helps those who need help to meet challenges in life. This is something very noble,” he said during the launching of the project yesterday by Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu on behalf of her husband Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

The RM13 million project on a 2.7-acre site would be implemented in phases. Wong said Association for Children with Special Needs Sibu (ACSNS) chair Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau was the prime mover of the project and also thanked major donors KTS Group managing director Dato Henry Lau and his wife Datin Wendy Lau.

He also thanked Jamilah for helping those in need without expecting anything in return.

“Everywhere she goes, she raises funds – millions upon millions to help the poor, disabled, destitute and others needing help. She has helped those whom she doesn’t even know.

“Friendship is quite natural but universal love is something which requires a person with a very big heart and Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah is such a person,” added Wong.
