‘Make mosques, suraus integrated place of worship, knowledge and learning’
LAWAS: Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan called on all mosque management boards in Limbang Division to take steps to make mosques and suraus an integrated place of worship, knowledge and learning.
Officiating at the opening ceremony of Limbang Division Mosque Management and Invigoration Seminar at Jakim Training Centre here, he said this was in line with the teachings of Islam.
“Notwithstanding that the mosque is a place of worship, it should also have tuition class, reference resources and even courts for youths to play games,” he said.
He said such integrated mosque concept is found in many countries, including Oman, Argentina and Scotland.
The minister also called on management officials to ensure that mosques and suraus are kept clean to ref lect the teachings of Islam.
He also called on Imams and mosque management as custodians of Islam in their respective areas to guide the people against extremism and challenges that could jeopardise their faith, particularly influence of religious liberalism.
At the same time, he called for solidarity and consensus among them in discharging their duties and upholding responsibilities.
