Kampung Beting Maro gets solarpowered water purification system
KUCHING: Kampung Beting Maro in Batang Lupar has received a solar-powered system to supply it with clean and safe water.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim on Thursday launched the system that was manufactured and supplied by Saora Industries Sdn Bhd and installed by the Malaysian University Students Volunteer Mission ( YSS-Asean).
“This volunteer programme aims to expose student volunteers to carry out volunteer programmes based on the concept of ‘ right volunteers for the right job’.
“I would also like to thank everyone involved for donations in cash and kind from sponsors like Nadi-Ayu Technologies Sdn Bhd, Saora Industries Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Bank Rakyat, Bank Rakyat, Kenanga Islamic Investor Berhad and ELS Language Centre,” said Rohani.
In a press release, Soara Industries founder and CEO Ganesh Muren said the system could provide solutions for a number of specific problems faced in rural areas such as Kampung Beting Maro.
He said this was the first of many installations for rural Sarawak.
“Clean water is a basic necessity and we have a simple mission: to give more people in the world clean water to drink. While this is a trivial quest in a developed country, without governmental support or social infrastructure, it can be incredibly difficult.
“Water charity aims to help communities develop sustainable, ecological , simple, easy to maintain systems to get clean drinking water to everyone who needs it,” Ganesh said.
YSS- Asean volunteers also helped construct gates; repair walkways to the mosque; repair the plumbing system, toilets and baths; as well as transferred and prepared a site for the school water tank.
During the mission, which ends on Monday ( March 7) , volunteers also organised a variety of activities for residents and students.
