Pos Malaysia showcases second series of Scented Flowers stamps

KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia has issued its second series of ‘Scented Flowers’ stamps in continuati­on of the ‘Scented Flowers of Malaysia’ series in 2001.

The stamps, miniature sheet and other philatelic products such as First Day Covers ( FDC) will be on sale at all 703 Pos Malaysia branches nationwide starting Monday.

Pos Malaysia’s head of Stamp and Philately Unit, Diyana Lean Abdullah said the series featured four scented flowers namely the Bread Flower ( Kesidang) which will be sold in 70 sen denominati­on, Yellow Saraca (Gapis) and Cannonball Flower ( Peluru Meriam) at 80 sen each as well as specially infused jasmine scented miniature sheets, Cape Jasmine (Bunga Cina) at RM5.30 each.

She added that due to the great response during its previous series and limited number in production, the postal service provider expected the stamp collection to be sold out in a short period of time.

“The public is encouraged to join the Standing Order Deposit Account ( SODA) by signing up online at www.posonline.com. my to get the products pre-booked and enjoy benefits offered solely to SODA members,” Diyana said.

Meanwhile, according to Diyana, the Ministry of Education ( MOE) has recognised the Stamp and Philatelic Club as one of the co- curricular modules in primary and secondary schools nationwide.

“During the Kelab Setem dan Filateli ( Kesef) module signing in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan recently, in two weeks time a total of 6,000 students from 100 different schools have pledged to join the Stamp and Philatelic Club and sign up for the SODA program,” she told Bernama after the media preview, yesterday.

This series also unveiled stamps with Jawi inscriptio­n for the first time ever and Pos Malaysia will continue to produce all its future stamps in this manner. — Bernama
