TPA-M11 to leave for Mindanao tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Internatio­nal Monitoring Team-Mindanao ( TPAM11) is expected to leave for Mindanao, the Philippine­s, on Sunday to continue the task of monitoring and supervisin­g the truce between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front ( MILF).

The TPA-M11 this time, which will be led by Major- General Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain, will replace the TPA-M10 which had been on duty since March 14 last year and which will end its duty on March 14 this year.

Royal Malaysian Air Force ( RMAF) chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad said the mission was a continuati­on in fulfilling the aspiration of the Philippine government and the agreement of the Malaysian government to send a monitoring team for a period of 12 months.

“The team this time comprises 16 members with 11 of them from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), two from the Royal Malaysian Police ( PDRM) while three are civil servants from the Defence Ministry and Foreign Ministry,” he said in his speech at the Formation and Despatch of the 11th Internatio­nal-Mindanao Monitoring Team (TPA-M11).

The text of his speech was read by Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin at Wisma Transit, here yesterday.

Roslan said the team’s operations are divided into two with the first team led by Zamrose and four officers leaving for Mindanao on a commercial flight for the taking over process on Sunday while the main team would leave on a RMAF Hercules C-130 aircraft on March 13. — Bernama
